The day started with a visit to the Italian Market in south Philly. We went with one friend from work. It is a small “feira livre” in Brazil without caldo de cana, pastel and the weird guys screaming to get our attention. It is cheaper than grocery and they have a lot of meat stores and sea food. We bought the famous Cannoli at Isgros, a Italian pastry that exists for more than 100 years. The sweet is ok, but not something that Jan and I will dream about.
My friend’s mother is from Vietnam and she took us to a restaurant that she considers one of the best in Philly. The restaurant name is Pho-Ha. The main dish is called Pho, and it is a soup with meat, some vegetables and noodles. It is good, different from a lot of flavors that I know. I didn’t feel like more…
The day started with a mass at St Matthews Roman Catholic Church, my first one in Conshohocken, Beautiful church, fast ceremony…the problem is that the priest’ microphone was too low.
After that we went to a tourism day at Philly: started with a brunch at Rittenhouse square in a great restaurant called Parc. The tables face the square and made us think about Paris.
Then we decided to the tour bus around Philly. It was the first time for my mom in law and Jan, so it was worth it.
Then we went to Pat’s Cheese Philly steak – it was full and pretty good, I like the flavor a lot but the problem is that we eat so fast, since there are always people waiting for table, and we feel bad later. My mother in law liked but not loved … and she was all messed up after eating that. more…
I can’t believe my first week is already gone. That is going to be fast. I really enjoyed the week, the mix of lectures, group exercises and lots of laughs. The ABM group is pretty interesting and diverse and I can see I can learn a lot with them.It was great to have sarah and jacqueline there… it is so good to feel comfortable, at home… ah, and I met a brazilian guy at the dinner yesterday night. He works in beauty and went to the same college I did… great! more…
I have no idea how to write the title’s word, but it is something I was used to say to Jan I am kind of drunk. I would never imagined I would finished my day feeling drunk.. but you know what? sometimes it is just amazing. He arrived home earlier today and we went out to run some errands… buy some things for our home and we decided to have dinner in a nice place here, at Conshohocken – Coyote Crossing. I bought a Groupon 2 weeks ago and it was a perfect day to go there. more…
I know, I always need to have an excuse to sleep so much hehehe Sarah yesterday told me she probably would wake up between 8 and 9. So I woke up with Jan helped him with breakfast and come back to bed for some more minutes. I left the door open to listen for any movement. I woke u at 10 am with the alarm clock. So scary. It was that days that for 1 second I had no idea where I was, what was happening, why I should to wake up. more…
I woke up from 30 to 30 minutes with the alarm clock, until 11 am, when I realized I should start to move if I wanted to meet my friend at 12h30 in Philly. I don’t know why someone can be so tired all the time like me. Sometimes I just think I am sick.. but I am not. I always was a bed lover… and I am able to be there forever.
But thank God I had something planned because the day was great. I met my friend and we went for lunch at Gigi, a nice small restaurant in the Old City neighborhood. Then we did some tourism – Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, South Street. It was nice to understand more the Constitution creation, and the process. I love to see how Americans are patriot. Brazilians would not care less for a bell… but here there is a big and important meaning, and I kind of like that. I realized how general knowledge about USA is small, and if one day I decide to apply for citizenship I will need to study for the questions… more…
Great day in Philly with our friends…we woke up, had a nice breakfast with eggs and french toast at home…then we stayed around talking until we decided what to do: explore Philly. The day was gorgeous. We went to the Art Museum, not inside since the most important “piece of art” is a statue of Rocky (yes, from the movie with Silvestre Stallone). There was a line of tourists to take picture there: italian, japanese, brazilian and americans. It was interesting. We drove around some neighborhoods until we decided to stop to try one of the most famous Philly cheese steak, in a restaurant called Jim. more…
Yeah! Finally we went to Philly. Rittenhouse square is 15 min from home (without traffic). We got some traffic in our way back and it increased the time in almost 20 min… sad. But the quick visit to Philly was great. We had brunch with 2 Fuqua students that are here doing summer job at J&J. They talked about their perceptions and first impressions and it was pretty good! They confirmed our choice of living in downtown. In only 3 weeks they are already tired of the commuting time. more…
and it was great! I really liked the night with the couple friends… We spent almost 3 hours at Kellys Pub in Bryn Mawr, a city with a hard name as well. we talked about Fuqua, friends, life, music and I think we had a really nice connection… lets see how it goes! The day was pretty good… with some family talking, to do activities done, and we went out during the day to work in some estimates to our car and Jan’s bike.
No gym, a lot of food… great!
But I am happy today!
